Follow our ten safety tips to receive the best healthcare for you:

1.  Be an active member of your healthcare team.

2.  Tell your doctor everything you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

3.  Make sure your doctor knows about allergies and adverse reaction you have had to medicines.

4.  When your doctor gives you a prescription and you pick it up, insist that information about your medicines be given in terms you can understand.

5.  When you are being discharged from the hospital, ask your doctor to explain the treatment plan you will follow at home.

6.  Make sure you know what to expect if you need surgery.

7.  Speak up if you have questions or concerns.

8.  Make sure all health professionals involved in your care are aware of important health information about you.

9.  Ask a family member or friend to be your advocate.

10. Learn about your condition and treatment.
