Mom/Baby Support Group • Tuesdays 1:30-2:30 p.m.
E.F. Ball Medical Education Bldg.

A mother/baby support group facilitated by a IBCLC (a Certified Lactation Consultant). Infant weight checks are offered each week. Topics have included communication skills for new mom and dads, pediatric dentistry, home safety, and infant massage. Periodic guest speakers present information or services suggested by group attendees.

Beginning Steps
Beginning Steps is an introduction to the BMH Birthing Center and the Expectant Parent Program. Meet one-to-one with a Registered Nurse and discuss issues faced early in pregnancy, such as nutrition, pre-term labor, and breastfeeding education. Attendees may sign up for other childbirth classes, and request a tour of the birthing center. Contact Access Services to set up an appointment at (765) 741-1073.

Bosom Buddies • 12 p.m., Vera Mae's Bistro in Muncie
Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group luncheon held the first Friday of each month at Vera Mae's Bistro in Muncie.  Each meeting features periodic speakers and a variety of topics dealing with breast cancer.  There is a $10 registration fee.  To register, contact Joan Smith at (765) 759-9627.

Preparation for Childbirth • 9 a.m.-12 p.m., OMP 1, 3 sessions

This three-week Saturday series prepares you to be more involved in the birth process. It draws concepts from various childbirth methods in covering: Changes of late pregnancy and ways to decrease discomforts of the last few weeks; What to expect as labor begins; How labor and birth progresses and tips of reach stage; Additional pain control options available; Information on Cesarean birth Recovery following childbirth; Newborn care; Tour of Birthing Center; Classes available evening and weekends at various times. Plan to complete this series two to three weeks prior to your due date. Make sure you have entered your name, street and/or email address so you will receive a letter with directions approximately one week prior to the class. After Baby Comes • 6-8:30 p.m. • OMP 6-8 2 sessions
Basics of caring for the baby during the first six months life are covered for new parents, grandparents and other care givers. Topics in the two sessions include bathing and routine care, handling crying, keeping baby safe and healthy, infant CPR, handling infant choking, when to call the doctor, using play to help baby start learning. This class can be attended before or after baby's delivery. Healthy Lifestyles-Healthy Habits-Healthy You! Series • 5:30 p.m. • BMH Bariatric Center • 2901 W. Jackson St.

Spring into warmer weather with healthy habits! The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital is offering a free program for individuals wishing to learn more about nutrition, exercise and stress reduction. This program is a combination of regular programs for Thyroid disorders, Blood Disorder Family Support Group, Women Living with Cancer and Survivor's CAMP.  Space is limited. participants must RSVP by May 13 by calling (765) 741-1073.   Register on-line here.

 

Breastfeeding Class • 6-8:30 p.m. • OMP 1

This one-session class for mom and her support person is recommended for the sixth to eighth months of pregnancy. However, it may be taken anytime desired. This program provides trained volunteer cosmetologists to teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair loss using cosmetics and skin care products. Patients attending the program receive a free cosmetic kit. You must register for this program by calling (765) 751-5302.

Monthly education series hosted by the Cancer Exercise Program for cancer patients, survivors, support persons and staff.  Bring your lunch for an hour of fellowship, support and information, with topics varying each month.  The program is free, but you must register by calling (765) 751-1400.

Free Skin Cancer Screenings • 6-8 p.m. • The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital

Skin Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States.  The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital, along with the Dermatology Clinic of Muncie, Lifetime Skin Care Centers, and University Dermatology Clinic will offer a FREE skin cancer screening to the public.
