Pulmonary Services
The pulmonary rehabilitation center works with people who have chronic problems affecting the lungs, such as bronchitis and emphysema. The overall goal of the program is to return the individual to the highest possible functional capacity allowed by his or her pulmonary disease.
Staff members work to get patients to lead an active lifestyle. The program fosters a great deal of social benefits by bringing together people with a common bond.
The program's goals include:
- Improve the individual's quality of life
- Achieve independent function of daily living
- Control and alleviate symptoms
- Decrease psychological symptoms such as anxiety, panic and depression
- Increase exercise tolerance
- Return individuals to employment when possible
- Reduce exacerbations, emergency department visits and hospitalizations
Services are provided on an outpatient basis. Patients receive an initial assessment, and services are targeted to specific needs.
The program employs a staff with varied expertise. The staff may educate patients on everything from nutrition to coping with chronic illness to dealing with stress, anxiety and panic.
Treatment lasts for as long as the patient's physician recommends.
