Stanley named as new Chief Executive Officer

Kelly StanleyJohn Fisher, Chairman of the Board of Directors, announced last week that Kelly N. Stanley has been named as the new President and CEO of Cardinal Health System.

“I have worked with Kelly for many years, both at the hospital and in the community, and I know him to be a great leader and someone who builds strong and positive relationships amongst people and organizations,” Fisher said. “His knowledge of Cardinal Health System and the community, and his commitment to both, will be invaluable as he joins the CHS team in an important leadership role.”

Stanley has a long association with Ball Memorial and Cardinal Health System and has deep roots in Muncie. He served on the Ball Memorial Hospital Board of Directors from 1978 to 2003. In 1996, he was named both Chairman of the hospital board and Vice Chairman of the CHS board. He has served as Chairman of Cardinal Health Alliance since the creation of the managed care organization in 1995. Stanley replaces Robert Curtis, who served as CEO since 1998.

Stanley was an officer of Muncie-based Ontario Corporation, including serving as President and CEO. He served as Chairman of Ontario Systems Corporation. Prior to joining Ontario, Stanley practiced corporate law in Muncie. Since retiring from Ontario in 2003, Stanley has been President of the BMH Foundation. Under his leadership the Foundation has grown and become a more visible part of the Muncie and East Central Indiana communities.

“Cardinal Health System is a wonderful East Central Indiana asset,” Stanley said. “It is a superb organization with an excellent team that has a history of doing the right things for patients and for the community. CHS has many components which are, in their own right, outstanding organizations. It is a privilege to become a part of the CHS team.”

Stanley has been very active in the Muncie community having chaired the United Way campaign, serving on the Board of the Community Foundation, serving as President of Ball State’s Cardinal Varsity Club, and helping start Eastern Indiana Community Television (WIPB-TV).

In addition, Stanley is a former Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and serves on the National Chamber Foundation Board of Directors. He is a former Chairman of the Muncie Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and is a Director Emeritus of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership. Stanley is a director of Old National Bancorp and the Florida Chemical Company.

Stanley, along with his wife Donna, and Jim and Cathy Schrecongost, co-chaired the “Our Community Legacy: Caring for Tomorrow” community campaign for a new Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital. The campaign raised more than $8 million for the facility which opened in 2002.

He is a graduate of the Burris Laboratory School, Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and Indiana University School of Law. The Stanley’s live in Muncie and have three children and nine grandchildren.
