A Vision For Tomorrow

Because of this project, residents of East Central Indiana will continue to receive the most progressive healthcare available, in a truly patient-centric environment. Patients will have private room accommodations where there is ample space, not only for delivery of the most up-to-date and technologically advanced treatments, but also for family support and increased comfort and convenience.

Changes will mean better service with expanded areas for radiology and outpatient services, enhanced inpatient and outpatient surgical areas, new intensive and cardiac care units, and the new 24-hour outpatient observation unit. Both patients and visitors will benefit from the more convenient parking areas, enhanced and more accessible outpatient services, and direct visitor access to elevators and inpatient care areas. And all hospital patrons will enjoy the benefit of the hospital’s new “medical mall” services.

The new master facility plan will not only respond to the community’s growing healthcare needs, but will also be an economic investment in the region and East Central Indiana. The project will pump additional millions of dollars into the community through increased spending and taxes. The result will be an improvement not only in the health of area residents, but also in the region’s economy as well.

The announced expansion and enhancement of Ball Memorial Hospital’s facilities will make it possible for Cardinal Health System to fulfill its vision of being the leading choice for comprehensive medical services in the region, providing leading-edge technology and nationally recognized patient-centered care.

The Best Is Right Here . . . in East Central Indiana

This plan fits into the hospital’s goals of delivering quality patient care services and programs that are of value to the community. In addition, it will solidify the hospital’s position as an economic leader in East Central Indiana.

Cardinal Health System is the largest non-government employer in the seven county region of East Central Indiana. Its operating activities created a total of 5,838 jobs in the seven-county area in 2005. For every job created by Cardinal Health System, 0.58 additional jobs were created in the region by suppliers to CHS or resulting from household spending due to Cardinal Health System’s, payroll impact. CHS had a total economic impact of $485 million in 2005 with additional operating activities generating more than
$56 million in state, local and federal tax revenue.

Ball Memorial Hospital, Cardinal Health System’s flagship, has more than 2,500 employees with payroll exceeding $95 million. These employees have paid $699,637 in Delaware County payroll taxes, and the hospital contributes approximately $20 million in charity care to residents each year.

Also a healthcare leader in the state of Indiana, Ball Memorial Hospital has an active research department that regularly participates in clinical trials and is a member of the Hoosier Oncology Group. It is home to the largest physician-teaching program outside of Indianapolis, with four residency programs providing training to 60 residents in pathology, internal medicine, family, and transitional medicine. The hospital is also a member of the Indiana University School of Medicine, serving as an educational site for the first two years of medical school.

The System Works For You

Ball Memorial Hospital was founded on the promise that it would exist to provide the best care possible for the people of our community. This plan shows the hospital intends to continue to keep that promise.
