Top 100 Quality Award Recognizes Heart/Pneumonia Care
Ball Memorial Hospital is continuing to make a name for itself on the national scene. BMH recently received the Total Benchmark Solution (TBS) Top 100 Quality Award, based upon quality measures of U.S. health care organizations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). BMH, which was one of only three Indiana hospitals to receive this honor, was recognized for its quality of care for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia patients.
"Personally, I was delighted but not surprised to hear that we were among the nation's top 100 best-scoring hospitals. I believe that our staff's commitment to quality care is unparalleled in this region," said Ball Memorial Hospital Brent Batman. "We're pleased that there are now several resources that allow the public to objectively analyze different quality measures, and we encourage anyone who makes healthcare decisions for their family or business to take advantage of the information that is available."
In 2003, CMS launched the quality initiative to collect, measure, and report quality of care data in response to the Bush Administration's and the Department of Health and Human Services imperative to improve the quality of health care.
The CMS Quality Initiative helps to refine and standardize hospital data performance measures. The ultimate goal is that all private and public purchasers, oversight and accrediting entities, payers and providers of hospital care use the same measure in their public reporting activities. |
