Annual Foundation
campaign sets new mark

At 211 degrees water is hot, but at 212 degrees, water boils. A popular inspirational website touts how that one extra degree can make all the difference.

212 became the mantra of this years BMH Foundation annual campaign, and the $170,000 campaign goal was unofficially raised to $212,000 as a result. At the Campaign Kickoff volunteers were challenged to "make an extra degree of effort." They did—and it made a difference!

With the outstanding efforts of a remarkable volunteer team, the BMH Foundation Annual Campaign substantially exceeded its aggressive goal. The Campaign raised over $303,000 – to support programs and services associated with Ball Memorial Hospital.

"We are pleased that our Annual Campaign was successful," said Kelly Stanley, President, BMH Foundation. "The success of the Campaign reflects the hard work of an amazing team of over 125 volunteers – and is evidence of the high regard that the communities served by BMH have for our hospital – as well as for the entire medical community."

Stanley made the announcement earlier this week at a celebration attended by campaign volunteers from throughout the community. Campaign Chairman Thomas Kinghorn also touted exceptional efforts from the campaign volunteers.

"Our volunteers did a superb job making calls and garnering donations for an entity that is so vital to our community." Kinghorn said. "Many of our volunteers have been impacted in some way or another by Ball Memorial Hospital so it was an easy cause to get behind and support."

The focus of the 2006 BMH Foundation was a Celebration of BMH and the many services provided on a daily basis. In addition to the leadership of Thomas Kinghorn, the BMH Foundation also benefited from the support of Clell Douglass, BMH board member since 1967 as honorary chairman. Dr. John and Mrs. Pam Border also served as vice-chairs and Dr. Christina Drummond and Dr. Wayne Gray, physician chairs.

"The success of this year’s campaign is a direct reflection of the strength of our volunteers and their willingness to go that extra degree above and beyond 212," said Tricia Stanley, administrative director, Corporate Planning and Foundation Development. "From our campaign chairman to our honorary and vice chairman to our physician leadership as well as the individuals making calls we couldn’t ask for a better effort across the board."

Significant gifts included a lead gift from the Terhune family, owners of the local McDonalds restaurants along with special gifts from Hamer & Phyllis Shafer, Ball Brothers Foundation, George and Frances Ball Foundation, and the BMH Auxiliary.

At the campaign wrap-up celebration, the following teams were recognized for the amount raised: First Place Team: Keith Greenwalt, Team Captain (Team Members: Jerry Childs, Linn Crull, Mark Price, Cindy Sollars, Marla Templeton.

Second Place Team: Dan Allen, Team Captain (Team Members: Nance Buchert, Margot Diersen, Traci Lutton, Nancy Norris)
