Acquisition by Blackford Community Hospital brings expanded services to local residents

Blackford Community Hospital will soon offer an expanded scope of rehabilitation services in Blackford County.

Effective January 1, 2007, Thera-Plus, a longtime local physical therapy and
rehabilitation services provider, will join Blackford Community Hospital. The acquisition means rehabilitation patients will receive a wider array of services in one spot, without leaving the community.

“We believe this is a move that will greatly benefit residents in the Blackford County community in need of rehabilitation services,” said Steven West, president and CEO of Blackford Community Hospital.

“We will be able to offer an expanded staff of professionals, along with increased access to more equipment and resources.”

Acquisition by Blackford Community Hospital brings expanded services to local residents Blackford Community Hospital plans to merge the operations currently offered by Thera-Plus with the outpatient services provided under the umbrella of Midwest HealthStrategies, forming the region’s largest team of therapists to better serve Blackford County and the surrounding communities.

“Improving access to excellent rehabilitation services for local communities is
something that just makes sense,” said Gregg Altobella, chief operating offi cer for Midwest HealthStrategies. “We’re encouraged to be able to expand the services we offer and what that will mean for the patients and for our staff.”

Midwest HealthStrategies offers rehabilitation services such as physical, occupational and speech therapy. It also provides athletic trainers, exercise and wellness programs, recreational therapy and audiology services.

“By joining resources with Blackford Community Hospital and Midwest HealthStrategies, it allows us access to more programs for the community,” said Dan Ashley, owner of Thera-Plus. “By connecting to a larger organization, we can provide more services to people we would not have been able to otherwise.”

After a brief transition period, patients currently working with a therapist at the
Thera-Plus location will transfer, along with the staff, to the Blackford Community Hospital facility at the Blackford County YMCA. Those patients will still work with the same therapist they’ve been working with, just in a different location.
